"You just have to hold onto your light to succeed."

My watercolor practice grew out of instinctive art therapy. Over time, and through various exhibitions, I have presented work that explores solitude—depicted in a naive style within fantastical worlds characterized by a heavy, often somber atmosphere. For me, the quest for light always begins in darkness. I aim to evoke powerful emotions through great simplicity in my compositions.

The ultimate goal of my artistic journey is to share—through illustrations of simple, essential things—a sense of love with the public, thereby nourishing the spirit.

Jym Palfroix’s profile reveals an artist with a unique life story, deeply rooted in a mysterious, dreamlike pictorial world. This French watercolorist has forged a strong artistic identity through the expression of the imagination.

The Journey and the Man

•Origins and roots: After a turbulent childhood marked by resilience, he settled in Savoy. He established his professional studio in the heart of the Maurienne region, in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.

•Training: A self-taught artist, he began painting intensively in the mid-2010s, initially drawing guidance from art magazines.

•Philosophy: He approaches his art as an act of letting go. For him, the essence lies in a guiding principle that translates to the canvas: "You simply have to hold onto your light to succeed."

Artistic World and Themes

•Dreamlike and Fantastic Elements: His works throw wide the doors to the realm of dreams and poetry. His landscapes frequently feature small, mysterious figures—such as shamans or solitary silhouettes—that invite the viewer to project themselves into the scene.

•Nature as Inspiration: Deeply attached to the mountains of Savoy, he draws great strength from the silhouette of the Aiguilles d'Arves, which he treats as a slumbering deity.

•Atmosphere: His creations play on the contrast between solitude and the melancholy of the settings, set against explosions of magical color.

Preferred Techniques

•Pigment and granulation: He favors textured pigments like Lunar Black to create natural textural effects (such as rock formations or deep shadows).

•Use of vibrant color: He readily employs bold hues in his pure watercolor work—such as Opera Pink—which is perfect for shifting a realistic landscape into the realm of fantasy.

•Texturing techniques: During public demonstrations, he does not hesitate to use unconventional tools, such as plastic wrap to simulate rock structures or natural sponges to create foliage with a Japanese-inspired aesthetic.

Recognition and Awards

•Awards: He won the *Prix Géant des Beaux-Arts* at the 5th Breizh Aquarelle International Biennial (2022) and the *Prix du Jeune Public* (Young Audience Award) at the Caussade Salon (2024)……

•Events: A highly active instructor, he leads workshops and gives demonstrations at major festivals (Brioude, Morcenx, etc.).

•Publications: His techniques and sketchbooks are frequently featured in educational supplements for *Pratique des Arts* and in publications associated with *L'Art de l'Aquarelle*.
