An art town between sea and mountains
In the heart of the Vallespir, Céret is a charming little Catalan town nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees, between sea and mountains.
Its old lanes, shaded squares, plane trees and colourful façades attracted many artists from the beginning of the 20thth century. Picasso, Braque, Gris, Soutine and many others found in Céret a distinctive light and atmosphere. Even today, art plays an essential role in the town, notably through the Museum of Modern Art, galleries and numerous cultural events.
Céret is also an excellent starting point for exploring a region of highly varied landscapes. Nearby, the trails of the Vallespir invite visitors to hike and discover Catalan villages, with the Canigou massif as a backdrop.
Further down towards the Mediterranean, the Côte Vermeille reveals its ports, coves and emblematic villages such as Collioure, Port-Vendres and Banyuls-sur-Mer. The sea is less than an hour from Céret, while the mountains offer many opportunities for excursions.
Céret is therefore a destination where art, nature and light come together: an area especially conducive to discovery and inspiration.
