"Capturing light and atmosphere"

Cesc Farré: Born in Terrassa (Barcelona) in 1972, I view painting as the natural extension of how I see the world. Cesc Farré is an internationally renowned Spanish architect and master watercolorist. He is particularly celebrated for his unique ability to capture seascapes, the transparency of water, and the light of the Mediterranean.

My career, marked by international accolades, has led to my inclusion in prestigious institutions such as the Accademia Internazionale dell’Acquarello (Honorary Member) and the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (Elected Member). This professional recognition has afforded me the privilege of collaborating as an ambassador with leading fine art manufacturers, notably Da Vinci and Schmincke Horadam. Schmincke created an exclusive shade of gray for him, while Da Vinci developed a special-edition brush set bearing his name.

Mastering the aquatic element

A favorite subject: Cesc Farré is fascinated by the ocean, waves, and the translucency of the seabed. His background enables him to analyze how light passes through water with almost scientific precision.
In the field: An avid *plein air* painter, he captures the essence of a location on the spot before refining and elevating his compositions in the studio.
Pigment fusion: His signature technique involves blending colors directly on very wet cotton paper, rather than on the palette. This method yields maximum transparency and creates perfect splatters to mimic sea foam.

Knowledge Transmission and Pedagogy

Beyond the awards and my role as an international juror, my current focus is on artistic exploration. I divide my time between creating new works—regularly exhibited in galleries and art fairs—and teaching. Through my book *Mares y Cielos* and my instruction, I aim to convey not just technique, but a genuine interpretation of light and landscape. I also offer online watercolor courses designed to help students master the movement of water and clouds.
