"A few pens, brushes, ink and watercolor like the flow of time… white paper like the breath of space."
Workshop objectives and structure:
Following an initial period of discovery (or, for some participants, a refresher), the goal is to capture natural movement in paint without the subject appearing static—a common pitfall in wildlife art. This requires freeing up one’s hand and, in a sense, "letting go."
For this workshop, I am returning to large birds with wings unfurled—aiming to capture the motion of taking flight and integrate it into a composition defined by dynamic lines—while also exploring the smaller birds that inhabit rocky shores and intertidal zones. By the end of the workshop, participants will have experimented with material effects and watercolor techniques, as well as the graphic—and even calligraphic—dynamics inspired by their subjects. The aim is not to produce a mere copy of the artwork, but rather to forge a personal path through the suggested step-by-step processes, enriched by the experience gained during the preceding exploratory phases. The days will be structured around a mix of exercises and subject studies, with the exercises serving to foster freedom in how the subjects are ultimately rendered.
