Christine Créhalet

France

Having painted in oils since my teenage years, I decided to try my hand at watercolor about thirty years ago.

My move to Lyon sparked this new interest; I was quickly inspired by the watercolorists I met, and even more so after visiting a magnificent exhibition in Antwerp organized by Xavier Swolfs. I eagerly pursued my training by enrolling in workshops led by renowned artists in the watercolor world.
Primarily a landscape artist, I draw great inspiration from the Limousin region—where I now live—due to the strong presence of nature there.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to discover landscapes in China, and I was struck by the contrasts, variety, and atmosphere I encountered. Three watercolor collections bear witness to the impact these extraordinary journeys have had on my work and its evolution.
Water plays a significant role in my painting process; the unpredictable effects it creates constantly challenge me to adapt, leaving ample room for interpretation and imagination. I am particularly drawn to fluid washes and soft blends, through which I aim to express a personal, serene vision of the plant world and Nature—themes I explore frequently, though I occasionally venture into depicting places that bear the marks of time. The art of mixing watercolors yields extraordinary harmonies and colors—qualities I never tire of seeking out and harnessing by combining transparent and opaque pigments.
Si je crée une grande variété de verts dans le monde végétal, les belles couleurs granuleuses sont exploitées dans le domaine minéral. Je laisse ma personnalité et ma sensibilité s’exprimer.
